Concertmaster

Concertmaster Helen Bleakley Carvolth graduated from The University of Qld’s School of Music with a Master of Music in Performance in 1999. During her years of study she performed with pianist Bernadette Groot in a series of recitals of violin and piano sonatas.

Helen also simultaneously completed an Arts degree majoring in History. She won the University String Prize in 1996, and in 1195-1996 was Principal of the University String Orchestra and the has performed with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Qld Pops Orchestra, Qld Festival Philharmonic, Sinfonia of St Andrews, Northern Rivers Symphony, and the Australian Youth Orchestra.

Between the birth of her daughter and second son, Helen researched and wrote the early childhood music program “Sound Start Music”, and ran her own business delivering this program for two years.

She is an Old Girl of Ipswich Girls’ Grammar, and has been teaching Strings there since 2017, having also taught at West Moreton Anglican College, St Peter Claver College, and St Aidan’s AGS. Helen has been Concertmaster of ICSO since 2014.
